This was the title of the competition organised by the Art Flow Gallery in Paleochora together with the mayor of the town. 45 applications were received. From these, 20 finalists were selected to exhibit their works on the theme from 12 to 20 May 2018.
Gerhard created a collage from materials he found during a short visit to Grammeno beach. It is not beautiful. The word radical doesn’t fit either, when today it’s almost insignificant news that a sperm whale with 30kg of plastic in its belly died off the island of Santorini.
Gerhard’s passion is snorkelling and he is very connected to all the wonderful creatures in the sea. In doing so, he realises more and more how much plastic can be found in and out of the sea. There are 15,000,000 tonnes of plastic worldwide. He called his collage “Seafood” because the problem not only affects sea creatures, but also people. Plastic can even be found in sea salt. We have to tackle this problem, not tomorrow, but now!
