Underwaterexhibtion Paleochora Art Week 2016

gerhard-stelzhammer-kreuz-2-wFor the second time, the underwater exhibition will take place during the Paleochora Art Week 2016. Gerhard, the man behind this extraordinary exhibition, has come up with something special this year. He was moved by the refugee issue and so he created a 3.5 metre cross to commemorate the many dead.

The cross was erected under difficult conditions. Strong north-easterly winds and therefore rather rough seas on Methexis Beach made sinking the cross a bit of an adventure.

The cross was brought from the harbour of Paleochora to Methexis Beach. Two fishermen and Kostas Liatakis actively supported the operation. When the cross was lowered into the water, it did not sink as planned. It floated on the surface of the water. Only in the evening, when the wind had died down, was it possible to attach additional weight. This required a diver and a kayak.

As a result, the cross sank to the seabed as planned. A few air bubbles rose to the surface.

Many thanks to the diver Dimitri Koskinas, Kostas Liatakis and the two fishermen!!!
